Ceremony honors UAF student athletes

The University of Alaska Fairbanks honored 47 student athletes during a halftime ceremony at the men's basketball game Thursday night at the Patty Center.

All 47 student athletes posted a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2003 spring semester and participated in the "Nanook Walk" ceremony.

"We're very proud of what our student athletes accomplish in competition, but we're also very proud of what they do in the classroom," UAF athletic director Cory Schwartz said.

"The Nanook Walk is just one way for us to honor our student athletes for their hard work and dedication to success in academics."

Volleyball finale

In addition to saluting senior Candice Smith, the University of Alaska Fairbanks volleyball team will hold Honorary Faculty and Staff Night for its match against Central Washington University at 5 p.m. at the Patty Center.

"I think the Honorary Faculty and Staff Night is a wonderful way for the members of the volleyball team to say thank you to faculty or staff members who have made a difference in their lives," Schwartz said.
