Nanooks sign another outstanding player

The UAF Sports Information announces the signing of another outstanding Student/Athlete with the UAF volleyball program. Coach Phil Shoemaker hopes he's found the setter he's been looking for to fill out the UAF volleyball roster when he signed Jessica Clemons to a National Letter of Intent last week. Clemons is a 5-foot-11 right side hitter/setter from San Jacinto, Calif.

"We are excited to have Jessica with us," Shoemaker said. "She has enjoyed a high level of success in high school, and we expect more while she's here with us.

"Strong setting is critical for team success in volleyball, and I think Jessica has the potential to help us move to the top of the GNAC and into the NCAA tournament," Shoemaker added. "She will be an excellent addition to the two players we signed in November (Katie Tobiasz and Danielle Hitzeman)."

During her senior year playing for West Valley High School in Hemet, Calif. Clemons was named first-team all-area and she was the most valuable player in her league. She served as team captain and set a school record for match kills with 35 and also finished her high school career as the second leading setter at West Valley High School. In her junior year she was named to the first-team all-league.
