Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church—Fairbanks, Alaska
Pen & Ink on Bristol Board, Image size 8"x 13"

The first Episcopal church in Fairbanks was a simple log structure built in 1905. A reading
room, open to the public, was established in the church in 1906. The original church was
destroyed by fire in February, 1947, and the present church building, also constructed of logs,
was built the next year following the basic plan of the original. The bell and hand-carved
lectern and altar rail, which had been saved from the original structure, were installed in the
new church.
