Prickly Rose (Rosa acicularis)
Pen & Ink on Bristol Board, Image size 4.25"x 5"
Prickly Rose is a wild rose found throughout Alaska and Canada along river banks, in forest clearings and in open forests. It is justly called Prickly Rose, being densely covered with slender thorns. Walking through areas heavily covered by Prickly Rose is a real challenge (shorts and short-sleeve shirts not recommended!) The scarlet, fleshy rose hips are excellent sources of vitamin C and make delicious jellies.
