Kinnikinik, or bearberry, is a low-growing evergreen shrub well-adapted to arctic and sub-arctic climates. It is found in Europe, Asia and North America, and usually grows in open forest areas. The berries are relatively tasteless but persist throughout winter and are good emergency food. Bearberry bushes are sometimes found together with blueberry bushes, and they can be used as a supplement to blueberries in most recipes.
