U.S. Condemns Violence in Burundi

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. State Department condemned on Frday recent acts of ``senseless brutality'' against unarmed civilians in two provinces in southern Burundi.

``Insurgent attacks against unarmed civilian populations and government reprisals against other defenseless targets are equally reprehensible,'' spokesman John Dinger said.

He gave no details but reports from Burundi indicate that the most serious incident occurred earlier this week when Hutu rebels killed at least 46 Tutsis at a Roman Catholic seminary.
