Church Wants Gag Order in Molest Case

Port Angeles, WA - The Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle is trying to stop a lawyer from speaking publicly about a civil lawsuit involving a priest who alledgedly molested and altar boy in Port Angeles.

[The lawyer] Bendell alerted the media.

"I feel the the archdiocese shoul have a responsibility to be open to its members about what has happened," Bendell said.

The Church has admitted that the [defendant/priest] alledgedly molested the boy, but does not admit liability.

McGreal [the defendedant], who is now retired in Palm Springs, CA, was never charged criminally. His case came to light after another priest, Paul Conn, was charged AND {my emphasis} convicted of molesting altar boys in Port Angeles.

Conn was convicted on 6 counts of indecent liberties in 1988. Court records allege he has had as many as 20 victims.

Prosecutors claimed that the church knew Conn was a pedophile and had a history of molesting children.

The diocese later admitted that McGreal was aslo allegedly a pedophile. He had been twice to the church's treatment center for pedophiles in Jemez Springs, NM
