No bids on tax resisters' farm

No one bid on the farm of the Maine tax resister family whose farm was placed at auction by the Internal Revenue Service June 19 [NCR, June 28]. The lack of bids means that Arthur Harvey, 64, and his wife, Elizabeth Gravalos, 53, and their two children will continue to reside on their organic blueberry farm for the time being.

In a similar case six years ago the IRS bought the property itself and evicted the family.

Harvey Ñ who has paid no federal taxes since 1959 Ñ told The Associated Press he had no immediate plans. "Who knows what will happen?" he said.

At the auction itself, about 50 farm family supporters sang peace songs and waved banners outside Hartford, Maine, town hall. ÑArthur Jones
