Inevitably overtaken

- Your latest issue [NCR, Nov. 22] contains some inspiring stories about Cardinal Bernardin, but also a discouraging article about present and future hunger around the world, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.

I found the article discouraging because of its lack of realism.

Whatever we might do in the near future to improve per capita food production will inevitably be overtaken by population growth if popes, the Christian right and cultural taboos continue to oppose the search for a cheap and simple method of artificial birth control. ......
