Another clash over abortion may be brewing between New York Cardinal John J. O'Connor and 1984 Democratic vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro.

The New York archdiocese has been getting pointed calls about an amicus brief signed by Ferraro and other Roman Catholics asking the Supreme Court not to overturn its 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion. The brief cites "a diversity of opinion among committed Catholics on the subject of abortion."

O'Connor's rejection of a similar statement by Ferraro led to a flap during her '84 campaign.
