Basic Expections and Guidelines

Religious School is held every Sunday from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.
We follow the public school calendar for winter and spring breaks

Please see our Religious School Calendar for special events and holiday closures.

THE SCHOOL DAY
10:00 - 10:20 Morning welcome circle with T'filah (prayer) and music.
10:20 to 11:20 Hebrew language lessons
11:20 to 12:20 Jewish Studies classes
12:20 to 12:30 Closing circle

HEBREW LANGUAGE LESSONS are designed to allow our students the opportunity to learn Hebrew in a prayer-based curriculum.

JEWISH STUDIES CLASSES are based on the Union for Reform Judaism's program known as the Chai Curriculum. For an hour every Sunday, students in Grades 2-6 will have the opportunity to learn in an interactive and fun environment. This curriculum offers teachers 27 lessons broken into three categories: Torah, Avodah (Prayer), and G'milut Hasidim (Acts of Loving Kindness). While the lessons themselves are provided by the adopted curriculum, our teachers supplement this curriculum with their own creativity, life experience, and additional fun and meaningful activities.

MUSIC including songs from the liturgy, holidays, and Israeli culture, is included as part of the learning activities in order to fully prepare students for inclusion in holiday celebrations as well as religious services.

BAR/BAT MITZVAH PROGRAM
Students are eligible for Bar or Bat Mitzvah beginning at age 12, but most commonly at age 13, once adequate learning and preparations have been made.
Please see link to B'nai Mitzvah Handbook for details. Families interested in B'nai Mitzvah for their children should first consult the Religious School Principal with their intentions in order to develop a plan of preparation.

PRE/K PROGRAM
There are two programs targeted to this age group:
1. The general Pre/K Program meets weekly focusing on introducing the Hebrew Language while teaching general Jewish concepts, prayers, vocabulary, customs, holidays, and stories.
2. The Aba Ima and Me Program meets once a month and provides a time for parents and children to learn and explore core Jewish values together.
