Chena Bend Golf Course. Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.
I think Chena Bend is a beautiful course, ranked 2nd in
Alaska a few years back. It continues
to improve. Here are a few Photos of
some of the holes. Yardage is from the
white tee’s.
#2 A medium par 3 at 177 yards from the
box. This hole has an OB along the
road on the left, so don’t pull it. The
airfield is just to the left of the hole, and it can get loud there when the
fighters are visiting.
#4 A 505 yard par 5, which has an OB along
the left side, and by the clubhouse parking lot on the right. This green is reachable in two, but look out
for the fairway bunkers that guard the green, about 40 yards in front. View it from the dogleg here.
#7 Just a couple of shots of the green here to show
you how the surface looks.
#9 Yet another one of the par 5 on the course. This one is short and easily reachable in two at 497 yards. The only real hazard is the woods off the
box on either side. Or if your 2nd
shot drifts right it could be behind some trees in the fairway of #4. Here is the
shot over a small hill by the fairway bunker that captures a lot of big
hitters.
#12 One more par 5 which is the longest on
the course from the whites at 520 yards.
You will want to play it to the right half of the fairway to get this
view of the green,
but watch out for those trees, they are thick.
#13
Is a dogleg left par 4 on which the
fairway necks down and has fairway bunkers at around 220 yards, but a good tee
shot will give you this view of the green.
#14 Is a 175 yard par 3 with the Chena river
on the left side. Guarded by a trap
left and right of the green, it is not a real difficult par three. The river is OB instead of a lateral water
hazard. Here is another closer view.
#18 Is a dogleg right par four which is
protected with a pond
on the right, and bunkers left and right.
It is up hill
and plays into the wind on most
evenings, which makes par a very good score here.
There you have some of the holes for Chena Bend. I will try to take some of North Star Golf
Club in a week or two. It is an
interesting links style course, with small hard greens on one side and larger
slower greens on the other.
Hope you enjoyed this.
