Otowa-No-Taki Flowing forth from deep within the mountain for thousands of years, the waterfall is counted among the ten most famous pure water sites in Japan and is, of course, from which Kiyomizu-dera takes its name. Enshrined at the waterfall's fount is an image of Fudo Myoo (God King of Fire). Many of the devout stand beneath the waterfall to perform the rite of cold water ablution while worshipping before Fudo-Myoo. This information was taken from the pamplet "Kiyomizu Dera Temple" published by Kiyomizu-Dera Temple Kiyomizu 1-Chrome, Higashiyama-Ku, Kyoto. |
