Bereavement

Hospice offers the only program in Fairbanks specifically designed to support those who have experienced a loss through death. This program addresses individual, group and community needs, for the people of the Tanana Valley. The majority of those served by the bereavement program are community members who have experienced a sudden or traumatic loss, or the loss of a family member living outside Alaska.

The Bereavement Services Coordinator provides individual, family, and group support, as well as information and education in the community.

Bereavement support groups for those who have experienced a loss through death are offered several times a year. These groups are open to any adult in the community who has suffered a loss during the past few years. Groups are structured, six-week sessions, meeting once a week, focusing on education, support and sharing and are conducted by professionals who volunteer their time. Hospice asks for a donation of $30 per person to cover material costs.

For more information on the next scheduled bereavement support group, please contact the Hospice of the Tanana Valley.

Bereavement Volunteers are individuals who have themselves been bereaved, and have been specially trained to reach out and provide one-on-one support to others who are grieving.

Hospice offers unique community workshops such as "How to Get Through the Holidays," which focuses on ways to cope during the holiday season and is offered in early November.
